Guy's Xbox & Other Gadgets Stolen, Gets Harrassed on Xbox Live

// March 23rd, 2008 // No Comments » // Sad But True

So this is sad. A guy’s house gets broken into and his Xbox 360, Powerbook. etc. gets stolen. The police are absolutely worthless, but the guy does some legwork on his own.

Wow, You’re a Moron!

This Is Doing Wonders For Raleigh's Reputation

Wow, I didn’t even think of this with the first round of the East regional of the Men’s NCAA 2008 Tournament being at the RBC. There really isn’t anything right around there at all. It’s sad, and could make it more difficult to get the tournament back here soon. Maybe this article and the comments within will help kick some development into gear. But it’s true. The RBC Center is off of I-40, not Hillsborough street. The restaurants and all that are right around there have struggled.

Not a whole lot to report here. We’re still down in Anderson, South Carolina. I’m just proud/satisfied that I’ve still been able to make posts to keep my streak alive (going on four months of straight posts!!). We stuck close to Amanda’s grandmothers house today, helping to clean up and pack up some stuff for their eventual move. We got a couple of furniture pieces to put in our front living room. The 4Runner will be returning to North Carolina tomorrow morning, towing a U-Haul behind it. I’ve never driven with a trailer before, nor has the 4Runner as far as I know. It shouldn’t be too bad, as we’re just towing a small single axle trailer behind us. Hopefully, it won’t cause any problems, nor kill the 4Runner’s gas mileage too bad. It’s time for a good night’s sleep before our trip back home tomorrow.

Tar Heels Ease Through First Round of NCAA Tourney

Go HeelsAmanda and I are down in South Carolina for the weekend, but I still jumped on watching the Heels play tonight in the opening round of the 2008 NCAA Men’s basketball tournament. We struggled at first to find the game, but eventually found it. To no one’s surprise, the Heels had very little trouble with Mount St. Mary’s. Tyler Hansbrough had 17 points in the first half alone. It wasn’t the most exciting, nor nail-biting game, but it’s been a nice and welcome change after a couple of close calls in the ACC, to have an easier game before meeting some tougher teams in the next couple matchups.

Congrats to the Heels, playing so close to home. I’m happy they’re playing this opening round just down I-40 in Raleigh at the Hurricanes/Wolfpack’s arena – the RBC Center. It’s gotta help to be able to sleep in your own bed after these first couple games.

Rock Band Music Store Unveiled

// March 20th, 2008 // No Comments » // Gaming

Rock BandThis looks really nice and polished. It’s also nice to see in the article others desiring World Tour mode to be available online. The browsing and various ratings for the band/instruments is cool, as is the interface itself. Buried deeper in the article, it mentions a few other welcome patches, updates, etc. Looking forward to my Xbox letting me know there’s a Rock Band patch ready to be applied:

Food Lion City Park Criterium Official Results

// March 19th, 2008 // No Comments » // Cycling, Personal Crap

Anxious for RestartSweet. It looks like the City Park results are now posted on their site (the 2008 results link, which takes you to a PDF). There I am in the #12 spot of the Cat 5 race. Pretty impressive! It’s funny. The guy who finished right ahead of me found the pics Amanda took on Flickr and added me as a friend on there as well. Small world, eh?

Now my race result needs to show up on my USA Cycling profile to move me up some in the rankings.

Tiny Torrents

When Sharper Image’s Ionic Breeze components first came on the scene, I wondered if and when we’d see the technology pop up in computers and related electronics. I don’t think it’d ever replace more traditional fans across the board, but I’d think there’d be some applications where it’d be preferred.

Work's in High Gear, But So Are My Goals Outside of Work

// March 18th, 2008 // No Comments » // Personal Crap, Work

So work has shifted into high gear – with three sites needing to be built this week. For those who don’t know, I’m a pseudo-web developer, specializing in front end web technologies and the like – acronyms like HTML, CSS, SEO and PHP. Anyway, my work comes in waves and I’ve got a tsunami right now. I’m not complaining, as the days and weeks just fly by, but it’s definitely more stressful and I feel like I’m barely keeping my head above water.

I’ve got a fair amount of job security, as I’ve got web site builds scheduled for the next two months solid. I have been getting overwhelmed and stressed, but I think most of both of those are self-inflicted. I pride myself on working well without much need for direction or prodding. I work efficiently and quickly most of the time, and have been recognized as such.

But whatever happens this year, I’m not letting all my hard work outside of work go to waste. I’ve done a ton of training and conditioning in the off season, and have started to see and feel those results. Last year, my team did sprint practices every Wednesday afternoon. I missed pretty much every single one of those, except a few right around our team sponsored race. Not this year. Regardless of the workload, I’m making the majority of those practices. I’m working to live, not the other way around.

Food Lion City Park Criterium Cat 5 Results

Ryan Keefer during the Food Lion City Park Criterium, March 16, 2008 March 16 turned out to be a much better day than the day before. I signed up for my second crit of the season thus far – this one calling for an early start,as it was about 2 hours away in Salisbury, North Carolina. My Cat 5 (under 35) race started at 8:15.

We got there as it was still dark and the race organizers were just setting up the scaffolding for the start. They hadn’t even blocked off the roads yet for the day of racing. Registration took a bit of time but I eventually got my race number (#513) and started to ride the course – beautiful course around the Salisbury City park (hence the name of the day of racing).

Quick Post

Man, today was such a better day that yesterday. I’m completely exhausted – being up since 4:30am this morning. The race went surprisingly well and my Heels won the ACC Tourney and ended up with the overall #1 seed. More (and I mean a lot more, including some pics) on my race tomorrow once I’m not falling asleep at the keyboard. I’m taking tomorrow off from work and will post in-depth tomorrow and hopefully will get a recovery ride in, and get some stuff done around the house and some relaxation in there too.
