Bike Thefts in Raleigh and a Little Street Justice Elsewhere

Got this from a friend regarding thefts during Raleigh’s monthly “First Friday” downtown events:

Hey guys.. i just got this from the first friday people. wanted to send as an FYI.

This is a heads up! Apparently the word on the street is that there has been a rash of recent bicycle thefts in the Raleigh area.

These bikes were all locked! Evidently someone around town has a hack-saw/bolt cutters and is looking for bikes. Be sure to lock/keep an eye on/bring inside your cycles! U-Locks are best (even thick cable locks can be sawed through in minutes).

If you see the culprit and don’t have any melee weapons on your person contact the police.

In the meantime please keep an eye out for these bikes:

Maroon Myata road bike with yellow brake lines

Black silver and red Giant Boulder with an rx seat, w/no front deraileur

And in a related post, a little street justice against a lowlife bike thief. Explanation in the link below:

Also, here’s a sad example of how oblivious and easy it is for people to steal locked up bikes in broad daylight.

The best thing to do is to just try and bring your bike inside, I had one stolen not to long ago in the middle of the afternoon and had a U-Lock on it. It was in the middle of the afternoon too, so be carefull at all times!

I have been using Kryptonite Locks York Fahgettaboudit for a little less then a year now, I park my bike in really really bad areas and never have to worry about it with that lock. Its a little expensive, but I don’t think you could get through it without a blow torch and a team of guys.
