Ride Like It's Your Last One

// August 18th, 2009 // No Comments » // Baby, Cycling, Personal Crap

CyclingSo today, we’re at a month until our little one’s due date. It’s also the start of my official blackout period of road biking I agreed to with the wife. Basically she wants Tyler to meet her dad, and wants me available and not 50 miles out in the middle of nowhere when she goes into labor.

I also want to be close and available in both those situations. Sure, I’ll be back on the road in a little over a month or so, but Anyway, that being said, I got a final road ride in today (though my official last ride will be a bike commute on Friday if the weather forecast continues to hold up). I can’t explain it, but I flew over my normal routes. It was quite hot, but even that didn’t seem to slow me down. I glanced at the trees many-a-time, thinking I had a nice hard tailwind, but the trees were almost completely still through my little 45+ minute ride.

Exciting Day

// July 1st, 2009 // No Comments » // Baby, Personal Crap

28W5D_32So I know this is a bit of a rehash from Amanda’s post earlier this evening over at LittleBabyK, but oh well. It was a pretty historic and memorable day! The day started out pretty busy and hectic, but mid-afternoon, we had our 3D/4D Ultrasound to check out our little one. We also invited my mom along.

Now the 3D/4D ultrasound was an extra fee, but man, was it ever worth it. Unlike the traditional black and white ultrasound, this one showed a more sophisticated image of our little guy and it’s totally impressive.

Tyler is definitely taking shape in there. Despite having all of July and August, along with part of September, the little dude’s features are unique and mommy and daddy are both represented in Tyler’s facial features, along with other areas such as the little guy’s toes.

This just keeps getting more and more real! I’m totally floored and excited!

Trips to Franklin Street – Freaking Dangerous

// April 19th, 2009 // No Comments » // Baby, Personal Crap, UNC-CH

Tar Heels LootWe don’t make it down to Franklin Street as often as we once did – mainly cause it’s a bit of a drive from our current home, but it’s also simultaneously because it’s freaking dangerous to our wallets!

I’ve been wanting to get us 2009 NCAA champion t-shirts (though I wasn’t a big fan of the official locker room design this year), but the big thing was Wednesday, we found out that we’re having a little boy, so that became quite the catalyst for a trip down to Chapel Hill for lunch and some Carolina memorabilia shopping with my parents.

So between the two couples, we got our little guy enough UNC gear to get him started in life. It is absolutely amazing to see all the mini-sized Carolina clothes. I’m so psyched to see him decked out in all this Carolina blue stuff!

Excited For Tomorrow

// April 14th, 2009 // No Comments » // Baby, Personal Crap

So I know most of the baby-type posts have now migrated to littlebabyk.wordpress.com, but this one had to be posted on Keefer Madness as well.

Tomorrow’s a big day for us. I’m super psyched as Amanda has her ultrasound tomorrow at noon, where we have the chance of finding out the baby’s gender. Not that it isn’t already really real, but, this puts more perspective and allows us to start moving forward with a bunch of things – decorating Little Baby K’s room, buying gender-specific clothes and picking a name.

It’s been busy at work for the last couple of months at work, but it’s all going to be put on hold tomorrow for a little while. It’s going to be tough concentrating on anything but Little Baby K tomorrow.

New Blog Focused on Our Future Little One

// March 7th, 2009 // No Comments » // Baby, Internet / Web, Keefer Madness, Personal Crap

So Amanda made the suggestion yesterday morning that we create a little blog separate from Keefer Madness’ catch-all. Instead, this one is is all about our little expectant baby. I’m certainly not going to stop blogging here at Keefer Madness, but expect more baby-related posts from both of us over on the new blog now and throughout the pregnancy and into the birth.

On Cloud Nine After Today's Appointment

// March 5th, 2009 // No Comments » // Baby, Personal Crap

10w5dSo Amanda had yet another appointment for our little bean today, though it has been upgraded to lime status. Today’s appointment was basically to do some blood work and we got another ultrasound.

With this one, we could really see the little one being active and it was amazing! We got to watch for several minutes as the ultrasound tech was taking measurements and all. The little one was moving all around, had his feet kicking, and a hand to the face at one point. He/she stretched out several times. It was just the absolutely amazing of things to see all that happening! We also got to hear the heart beating away and you could see that fluttering. The HR was measured at 174 bpm, which is just 4 bpm’s faster than my cycling training yesterday. How cool!

There’s just something about getting to see all that movement and the little heart racing.

I'm Gonna Be a Daddy!

// February 19th, 2009 // No Comments » // Baby, Personal Crap

I’ve made countless posts on Keefer Madness since I first starting blogging on this web site quite a few years ago – many have been personal in nature.

But not a single post I’ve typed into the blogging software has been this personal, nor have I made a post about an event in my life that’s encapsulates so many emotions: excitement, pride, nervousness and anxiousness, just to name a few.

As you can see from the photo and the headline above, Amanda and I are expecting our first child. It was tough not to tell the world immediately after Amanda took her pregnancy test, and we have told a few people, but now with a photograph of Amanda’s first ultrasound in hand, we wanted to spill the beans. I’m not sure what the exact etiquette/rules are to when you’re supposed to share a pregnancy, but this seemed like a good milestone to let everyone know.

Right now, the baby is 26.2mm, which is just over an inch from head to bum.. still so tiny! But at yesterday’s initial ultrasound, it was amazing to see the little fluttering of the heartbeat and the beginnings of body features – the head, body and what will eventually be arms and legs. It’s all so amazing and undoubtedly, life changing in ways we’ve yet to even know yet.

Anyway, it’s hard to express how excited, nervous, etc. I am, but really looking forward to having a new Keefer 7 months from now. So now, there will be a new group of postings joining the likes of my cycling stuff on Keefer Madness, my links to misc tech, humor etc. Amanda and I are both psyched and look for more posts, info, etc. here as the pregnancy, infancy, etc. progress.
