Design Unique Things Easily With MakerBot Customizer

// January 27th, 2013 // No Comments » // Computers, Design, Tech

This sounds like it’s right up my alley. While I know my way around may an application, I don’t have much of a grasp in 3D apps. This sounds like a good stop gap until I get a handle on 3D design applications.

I particularly like the iPhone case customization wizard.

DIY Glass Whiteboard Turns Whole Wall Into Creativity Space

// January 24th, 2012 // No Comments » // Design, Home Projects

Love this, though I don’t really have a place (or need really) for it in my home office, though I think my son would get a kick out of it as well.

I could see this being utilized in a lot of offices and home offices alike though.

40+ Beautiful Wallpapers to Brighten Your Mac Desktop

// April 1st, 2011 // No Comments » // Apple, Computers, Design

Love this list of gorgeous and large resolution desktop images. While the title says Mac Desktop, most of these backgrounds would be perfectly at home in Windows… or Ubuntu for that matter. A few are sized to fit the iMac’s resolution perfectly, and a few are Apple-themed. But overall, these are just some nice wallpapers.

Moviebarcodes: Whole Movies at a Single Glance

I love unique and cool visualizations of data. Actually, I like visualizations of data in general. This one is cool, showing the color profile for given movies.

TuneGlue MusicMap – Relationship Explorer

// February 5th, 2011 // No Comments » // Design, Internet / Web, Music

At work, we’ve got this little private internal resource/blog for sharing cool inspirational stuff in design that speaks to us. The last couple days, it’s also been a great place for content to share with the Keefer Madness audience. Hope no one at Centerline Digital minds me sharing some of the stuff people have come across with the world. Then again, I guess it’s all already out there if we’re all linking to it.

The link below is to a cool little Flash visualization of artists and their relationships, offshoots, etc. The data looks to be pulled from Last.fm and Amazon, but seems pretty elementary. My example I tried — Van Halen of course shot off Sammy Hagar, but there was no reference to Chickenfoot.

Regardless, the visual and movement of the explorer is really neat, and with more and better data, the thing would be really cool for visualizing a lot and complex musical relationships pretty quickly.

Nice Graphic Visualization of the 2011 Pro Peloton

// January 7th, 2011 // No Comments » // Cycling, Design

Not a lot of variation in the 2011 pro peloton kits — just about everyone’s going black. As Bike Rumor pointed out, it’s going to be tough for commentators, spectators and possibly even the riders to differentiate between the different teams. Hopefully while the kits are almost all black, the bikes with be a little more vibrant and be able to be used as a differentiator.

The Best of 2010 Featured Desktops

// December 21st, 2010 // No Comments » // Computers, Design

I love changing my desktop backgrounds on a regular basis. The last few years, I’ve been on a kick of having two related images on my dual displays — sometimes just a mirrored image of each other, and other times a continuation from left display to right. Lifehacker has compiled a list of some of their best featured desktops. A lot of these go beyond just having a pretty image as a wallpaper, but instead have active information, data, etc. I’ve always wanted to take a stab at this, and know it’s possible on OS X via things like Geek Tool, but have never taken the time and effort to do so. Out of Lifehacker’s list, I like “The Duality Desktop” the best.

Love this timeline of Apple’s music player, its progression and expansion, along with the additional information the infographic provides regarding things related to the iPod (iTunes, Nike+, etc.)

Create Your Own Personal Infographic

// May 3rd, 2010 // No Comments » // Design, Internet / Web, Personal Crap

Thanks to a co-worker, one of my favorite recent adds to my RSS reading is CoolInfoGraphics. Today, they had a post to Create Your Own Personal Infographic via ionz.com/br. For all your English speaking peeps like myself, make sure to hit the British flag in the upper right hand corner.

It’s a great concept, but I think I want to run with it, and create something a little more relevant and personalized for me. I like the social networking question type of stuff, but think I’d go in another direction to make one that speaks more to me and my interests. I’ll get right to work on that in all my infinite free time. *ahem* But seriously, I am putting it on my to-do list, and I will create something.. eventually.

To the right is my personal infographic created from that site. Click on it to view it larger.
