Saw this over at bttf.com. I’ve yet to download it to my iPhone, but will check it out in the morning. Seems like it could either be pretty cool, or pretty clunky. I’ll post a followup after I’ve downloaded and played around with.

But just so you know, I’m pretty much a sucker for anything Back to the Future related.

PercyFX App Launches on iOS and Blackberry, Melding the Best of Entertainment and Technology for Back to the Future Fans

Update: OK, I can already tell you, this is pretty worthless. No video clips are included with the app itself. You have to buy credits to get clips. Then, the clips don’t have the original soundtrack, and most of the text effects are just total cheese. The flying DeLorean that ends Back to the Future and the Hill Valley clock tower getting struck by lightning with a custom message inserted just aren’t worth anything to me. I can’t see getting any utility out of this. Deleted within five minutes of installing. Don’t waste your time.

Wow. There have been 22 Bond movies. I’ve got a bunch of them on DVD, and had several back on LaserDisc. Recently though, MGM announced a 50th anniversary collection though of all 22 Bond movies to date on Blu-Ray. I tried to find what it’d cost to pre-order on Amazon, but nothing yet. This would be cool to have, but I’m thinking it may be cost prohibitive.

I love unique and cool visualizations of data. Actually, I like visualizations of data in general. This one is cool, showing the color profile for given movies.

I still haven’t had the time (nor money) to play the first episode of the brand new Back to the Future game, but the Angry Video Game Nerd recently did a pretty extensive interview with AJ LoCascio, who is doing the voice of Marty for the new game. Pretty interesting stuff for Back to the Future fanboys, like myself.

I missed this release with the holidays and all. The first episode (of five!!!) of new Back to the Future episodic game for Mac and PC came out just before Christmas.

The trailer looks really impressive in terms of graphics, sound, voice and just overall staying true to the films. Hopefully the game play is better than past games based on Back to the Future I can’t wait to buy and play the first episode. Look for a review… in the future.

Back to the Future: The Game Now Available

Love this idea, if not the price — it combines a Back to the Future III DeLorean (notice the collection of tubes on the car’s hood, with a 500GB Seagate harddrive. OS X’s built-in back up software is called “Time Machine,” so why not make your backup hard drive an actual time machine? My external backup hard drive is named, “Flux Capacitor” and even has the Flux Capacitor icon. Yes, I’m that much of a dork.

Love that it’s the 25th Anniversary of Back to the Future, and we’re getting all kinds of new stuff. Telltale games, which has also brought back a couple of other properties, such as Sam & Max. It’s cool they got Christopher Lloyd to return for some voice acting, and Michael J. Fox signed off on likeness rights. The game is going to consist of five episodes ($24.95 for all five) that start soon after the end of Back to the Future Part III. Can’t wait to check it out. It won’t take much to beat out the crappy two NES games that were created back in the day.

Two other BTTF-related things. Telltale games also released a puzzle game on Facebook. It looks to be a lot like bejeweled, with a BTTF theme. While it does play the Back to the Future Overture theme in the background, the original sound effects don’t seem to be reproduced. Will have to check that out eventually.

There’s also full footage of the video from the Biff Tannen museum from BTTF II’s alternate 1985. It’s rough, including unfinished/placeholder voiceovers, but still pretty cool.

I’m sure I’m not alone in over the years purchasing multiple copies of the same movies in multiple formats — VHS, LaserDisc, DVD and now Blu-Ray. Now obviously everything doesn’t merit going to the newest format, and especially not to the high definition blu-ray format. My general criteria for re-snagging on blu-ray means it has to be a big favorite of mine that’s dynamic, like an action flick, or scenic. There are plenty of big favorites of mine that don’t merit buying in high-def. “Clerks” is a long time favorite, but between it being in black and white and not shot with that high of quality to begin with, a blu-ray copy would be a waste.

Here’s my short list of movies I’ve already made the plunge to duplicate in the blu-ray format:

• Back to the Future trilogy – This is the most recent addition to out small blu-ray collection, and is my favorite movie trilogy by far. The first film is pretty close to perfect in my mind, and holds up well 25 years later. Just as the DVD remaster looked wonderful, the digital reproduction takes the quality on blu-ray to another level. I never got to see the first movie in the theater, but the quality of both sound and picture of the second and third surpass what I saw in theaters. Most movies I don’t care about extras too much, but for my favorites, I eat up every little tidbit and piece of trivia. While a lot of the blu-ray extras are duplicates from the DVD boxed set, there are some new bits as well.
• Top Gun – While this movie doesn’t hold up as well 24 years later, it’s still a classic. All the F-14 shots look great in high def. First time seeing it on blu-ray, I remember really noticing how the reds and blues throughout the film really pop. Sadly, the extras are pretty lacking in the newest format. Maybe they’ll revisit the film for a 25th or 30th anniversary, where just like movie companies have done on DVD — they’ll get you to purchase multiple copies of the same film for new features. Sadly, I’ll probably buy said edition.
• The Shawshank Redemption – Another classic that I’ll buy again and again. The movie has some great dynamic light and dark scenes, and panoramic views. This one looks great in high def. Looks alone make this one worth a blu-ray purchase.
• Cars – Animation really looks great in the blu-ray format. The colors just look wonderfully deep. Anything Pixar is going to have a quality transfer to blu-ray, but Cars looks and sounds especially great.

In the future, as movies come out, and they’re going to become a part of the Keefer movie library, blu-ray’s the obvious choice, especially for action flicks, but other than a few others, it’s hard to justify too many other duplications.

As I’ve noted multiple times on here, the Back to the Future trilogy are my favorite movies. They came out on Blu-Ray today (my copy arrived yesterday!), and I can’t wait to see the films in high definition and check out all the new extras!

Anyway, The Today Show reunited a few of the cast, including Michael J. Fox (Marty McFly), Christopher Lloyd (Doc Brown), Leah Thompson (Lorraine McFly), Mary Steenburgen (Clara Clayton from BTTF III), Huey Lewis and Robert Zemeckis. I’m surprised they didn’t get the eccentric and weird Crispin Glover (George McFly) or Tom Wilson (Biff Tannen).

Probably my all-time favorite movie/trilogy &mdash Back to the Future has two big events coming up later this month. It’s being released on Blu-Ray (oh yeah, already pre-ordered.. can’t wait to see the new extras!), plus I just read it’s coming out for a two-day re-release in theaters. I was able to see the second and third installment back in the day in the theaters, but never got to see the original. It’d be cool to see the original (and best) in theaters (remastered digitally), but I can’t find any local theaters showing it (AMC Theaters only).

AMC Theatres has issued their exclusive trailer for the upcoming North American theatrical re-release of Back to the Future, in theaters Saturday, October 23rd and Monday, October 25th.
