Chickenfoot Update: 2nd Album News, Live DVD News and More

// February 7th, 2010 // No Comments » // General Posts

ChickenfootDuring the Super Bowl tonight, I’m positive one of the CBS lineup commercials had Hagar or Chickenfoot playing, and was hoping this update would shed some light. It doesn’t though. I’m also glad to hear that Hagar isn’t going to be a temporary replacement for Steven Tyler in Aerosmith. I’m definitely looking forward to the sophomore Chickenfoot album.

7 Ways to Find Your Focus

// February 5th, 2010 // No Comments » // General Posts

Here’s a great list of ways to find your focus in the office. I especially think the “propose later” bit to be very useful and effective. I’d add to “change locations” working from home for those that have it available for their given jobs and given workplaces. I can’t tell you how many days I’ve worked from home that have been so much more productive, and it all has to do with focus and limiting your interruptions. It’s amazing that not being at your [work] desk can ward off plenty of unimportant interruptions and channels some of the others of more importance into a more manageable and controllable medium — email (or instant messaging).

4 Reasons to Be Motivated to Ride This Winter

// January 15th, 2010 // No Comments » // General Posts

Cycling Sign Here’s a decent article about finding motivation in the cold and short days of the winter/off-season from active.com. While I dislike the extra layering and clothes needed for the winter training, there is something to be said about not being zapped by the heat. A lot of times, in the winter, you end up riding slower, but there are bursts and sprints that you can give a little extra because you’re not facing crazy heats and humidity.

The Recording Of OU812, In Sammy Hagar’s Words

Van Halen LogoMan, I love these in-depth accounts of the making of a given record. Awhile back, I posted the “5150″ producer interview from the Howard Stern show that went into detail on the making of the first Sammy Hagar-fronted Van Halen album.

I’ll be interested to see if pieces like this ever surface for For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge or Balance. I eat this Van Halen info up!

The Best Times to Buy Anything, All Year Round

// January 5th, 2010 // No Comments » // General Posts

Just a real quick post before putting the little one in bed this evening. This is a great graphic once again from over at Lifehacker, illustrating the general rule of thumb on the best time to buy various products. I hope the wife sees a couple of key images on that time line — mainly the February for bikes and the April-May timeslot for televisions. Looks like that new washer/dryer might have to hold out till around our birthdays if we want to score the biggest deals.

TiVo Premiere DVR to Surface at CES Next Week?

// December 30th, 2009 // No Comments » // General Posts

TiVo I wouldn’t be surprised at all if TiVo announced something new at the upcoming CES, but this rumor just seems lame. A TiVo with an multicard (m-card) cable card slot? My TiVo HD is already utilizing a mcard, though it does have two slots that could each use a single card instead. Maybe this new unit requires an mcard. But if that and a few dropped ports (phone jack and S-video input) are the extent of the “upgrades,” I’ll be highly disapointed and underwhelmed.

Sick of Blu-Ray and/or Netflix

// December 23rd, 2009 // No Comments » // General Posts, Tech

Blu-Ray Disc LogoSo as holidays approach and all of our favorite shows are in re-run, the TiVos are low with programs we actually want to watch. So it was about time to re-subscribe to Netflix. Last time we had a Netflix subscription, Blu-Ray was in its infancy, and we did not have a player capable of playing back the high def format.

Now, we do and have a handful of movies. So while I thought it was lame that Netflix charges extra to rent Blu-Rays, I added it to our account.

Can TiVo Reinvent Itself?

TiVo..and another DVR-related post this fine afternoon. It seems TiVo president and CEO Tom Rogers doe not run a DVR company. If you read deeper, I see what he’s getting at. They want to be the all-in-one settop box to beat all settop boxes, which in my house and heart, they are. Awww.. But I still think they should leverage how great of a DVR they are. Their combination of hardware and software can’t be beat by the offerings of any other consumer electronics company, cable or satellite provider.

Top 10 Homemade Versions of Things Lifehacker Loves

Another cool list of miscellaneous stuff from Lifehacker. This one is ten ways to mimic store-bought stuff at home, usually cheaper and often better and obviously has the ability to be more custom, including making your own ice cream creations and building a pizza oven at home. I especially like the DIY DTV Antenna and Hackintosh running Snow Leopard, but the whole list is pretty cool.

Tyler in the Nursery Tonight?

// November 13th, 2009 // No Comments » // General Posts, Personal Crap

Happy Little TylerSo tonight, and this weekend in general, we’re trying to have Tyler sleep in his crib in the nursery for the first time since he’s come home from the hospital. Up until now, he’s slept in a basinet at the side of our bed.

Despite having a redundant monitor system (a speaker on both sides of our bed) with vibration warnings along with the normal sound monitoring system, I think this one’s going to be tougher on his momma than it is on him. I’m thinking he’ll make it through the night, but you may find Amanda crashed on the nursery floor come the morning.
