Apollo 11: The First Men on the Moon Multimedia Web Site Experience

// May 3rd, 2013 // No Comments » // Internet / Web, Space Stuff & NASA

Co-worker shared this yesterday. I’ve never actually seen this footage, or heard these audio loops (air-to ground loop and the flight director’s loop) in their full duration.

The whole thing is amazing — obviously the fact that they’re landing on the moon and have audio/video of that, but the web site is a wealth of technology and impressive stuff too.

How Strava Is Changing the Way We Ride

// January 15th, 2013 // No Comments » // Cycling, Internet / Web

I’ve read about Strava a lot, usually in relation to some moron running a red light in an urban center, but never have I partaken. Here’s a nice primer and analysis of Strava and how it’s affecting cyclists.

Lifestream Plugin

// December 22nd, 2012 // No Comments » // Internet / Web, Keefer Madness

So I really dig the theme I use for this site. It’s a theme created by WooThemes called Irresistible. Love the look of the homepage especially, and the fact that I can tie in my photos from Flickr.

Additionally, it’s got a great feature that allows you to stream your activity from a whole slew of social networks. The plugin is simply called Lifestream. Unfortunately, the plugin hasn’t been touched or upgraded since I installed the Irresistible theme long ago. Overall, that hasn’t been a problem, but there are a few bugs that have never been fixed, and as existing social networks change and their APIs change with them, it’s left some social networks included in Lifestream unusable. Plus, as new social networks and sites show up, there’s no way to add them (save a generic RSS feed add).

I’d love suggestions or help finding a currently developed plugin to replace or upgrade Lifestream.

Google Music Gains Scan and Match Feature in the US

// December 19th, 2012 // No Comments » // Internet / Web, Music

Funny timing on this. A co-worker/friend and I were just talking about this yesterday. This makes Google Music a complete mirror in features to the competing iTunes Match. ALready invested in the iOS infrastructure, I’ll be sticking to iTunes Match and its $25 a year charge, but always happy to see competition.

HTTPS Everywhere 3.0 Secures the Web for Firefox, Chrome Users

// October 21st, 2012 // No Comments » // Internet / Web

I’ve been meaning to post this for a couple weeks. Just now getting around to it though. I read about this the day the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) released their third version. If you use Chrome and Firefox, you should use this, securing a lot more of the web by forcing the HTTPS protocal. Since installing it a few weeks ago, I’ve seen no hiccups, nor performance issues. I just feel a little bit more secure thanks to the EFF’s little web browser utility.

How Your Passwords Are Stored on the Internet (and When Your Password Strength Doesn’t Matter)

// June 20th, 2012 // 1 Comment » // Internet / Web

I tweeted this earlier, but I’m a big fan of strong (and different) passwords for all things computer related. I felt it was worthy of posting to Keefer Madness on top of the earlier tweet.

Lifehacker did a wonderful job breaking down the different ways passwords are stored. The best part of the article though are the ways to prevent, or at least minimize your risk.

Cycling Collection at Threadless

// March 27th, 2012 // No Comments » // Cycling, Internet / Web

Been over a week since I had the time to post something on Keefer Madness.

Sorry. It’s been crazy busy at home and work. Luckily, Amanda and I make a good team and have been able to consistently cover for each other. So lucky and grateful for that — each and every day.

Anyway, just wanted to post a quick cycling-related t-shirt collection. I’ve been a long time subscriber to Threadless’ newsletters, but have only purchased one shirt from them ever — their Infinity MPG green t-shirt. Love it. I wear it often to work and at home.

Seems though that they have quite the cycling-related collection building there — far beyond the Infinity MPG T-shirt I bought. Check it out:

NASA Tweetups Are Evolving. It’s Time To Be More Social

// March 7th, 2012 // No Comments » // Internet / Web, Space Stuff & NASA

I’m proud to have been part of that initial group of NASA’s Twitter Tweetups. I was even prouder to see the PR today that they’re expanding and broadening their social programs under a new name:

Roku’s Tiny HDMI “Streaming Stick” to Bring Netflix, Hulu to Smart TVs

// January 4th, 2012 // No Comments » // Internet / Web, Tech, TV Talk

This sounds like a pretty [little] cool concept: a little memory stick that plugs into Smart TV’s HDMI ports to allow video streaming services such as Netflix and Hulu. Sadly, it won’t work with any old HDMI port. It’s got to be one that supports Mobile High-Definition Link (MHL).

The more I think of it, other than having small size, how’s this better than a normal Roku box or the already pretty small Apple TV 2.0? Sure, a memory-stick sized streaming device would eliminate a set of cords (a power and an HDMI), but other than that, not sure what its appeal or audience will be.
