This sounds like a pretty [little] cool concept: a little memory stick that plugs into Smart TV’s HDMI ports to allow video streaming services such as Netflix and Hulu. Sadly, it won’t work with any old HDMI port. It’s got to be one that supports Mobile High-Definition Link (MHL).

The more I think of it, other than having small size, how’s this better than a normal Roku box or the already pretty small Apple TV 2.0? Sure, a memory-stick sized streaming device would eliminate a set of cords (a power and an HDMI), but other than that, not sure what its appeal or audience will be.

I’m seeing more and more of these advertisements that connect to Facebook to personalize the ad experience. Intel did it awhile back, creating a gallery of your info. That one had a lot more personal images and information, but this one speaks to me more—between it being cycling and HTC sprinter Mark Cavendish riding Specialized (self-proclaimed Specialized fanboy here!). I like that it had the pair of “Choose Your Own Adventure” type choices.

The video quality is top-notch, and what cyclist wouldn’t want the chance to ride and ultimately sprint against Mark Cavendish *AND* have the actual potential of beating the Isle of Man beast sprinter.

With Amazon, Google and Apple all now jumping into the remote-based music service business, it’s time to do a comparison of the three, along with some others that were already in the game like Rdio, Grooveshark and Spotify, among others. Thanks to Lifehacker, we have that initial report.

I’d take it all with a grain of salt though until Apple’s service is released and Google is available as a non-beta invite.

Subsonic sounds like a decent/viable solution for desktop-to-desktop streaming. May try that one out soon.

Apologies for another cross-posting and bit of self promotion, but I wanted to share another blog post I wrote for the Centerline Digital blog. This one deals with a pet peeve I’ve had with the online communities since I first started using Usenet groups and bulletin board systems way back when.

I wrote a bit on this back in the earliest of days of Keefer Madness (Argg! & There are a Lot of Jerks on the Internet more recently), but have expanded on the topic in this latest Centerline blog entry. Over the past year or so, more sites have found ways to combat the etiquette problems of the Internet and have been able to redirect it into a more positive direction.

I don’t remember where I first heard about this site, but it’s come in handy a couple times. It is an easy way to confirm whether a problem accessing a given web site is a problem with your ISP or an issue with the web site. I just wish it worked for Internet services as well—such as Netflix streaming (rather than netflix.com), iTunes Store, etc.

It all sounds good and vaguely reminiscent of LaLa.com. I miss you LaLa! The only difference is Apple is likely to charge for the ability to store in the cloud and the greedy music industry is trying to double dip. So lame.
