nine inch nails Fans Collaborate on Massive Free DVD/Blu-ray

nine inch nailsThis is a really impressive undertaking. You gotta love these fan-based projects where a group of big-time fans pour a bunch of their free time into a project for a band, movie or whatever they love.

I remember first reading about this via nine inch nails’ official web site some time last year. Basically, a ton of professional footage was recorded on the last NIN tour, but due to several circumstances, a professional product was scrapped and will never come to fruition. So much like some of Trent Reznor’s recent music, he just put all that high definition footage out there for the fans to pour over and make into something. I have yet to see the footage, but am [slowly] downloading the iPod resolution one to check out firsthand. Below is a link to the list of growing formats/resolutions the project is available in. I’ll bet this is going to look great on blu-ray in all its 1080p goodness.

nine inch nails Releases 'The Slip' Album For Free in Multiple Formats

// May 6th, 2008 // No Comments » // Music, nine inch nails

So Trent Reznor is taking it further with bucking music distribution’s normal channels. This time around, he’s offering up the album in multiple formats for free and is welcoming people to distribute, remix, etc. Great experiment! I’m halfway through the album and like it. It’ll take a few more listens for me to get a full feel and opinion formed.

No guarantee these links will work forever, but I’ve uploaded all of the Apple Lossless tracks below to Rapidshare for you to sample. You can also go to the nine inch nails site to signup and download the MP3s and get torrent trackers for the WAV and Apple Lossless tracks, or you can download the lossless ones below.

I’m not breaking any laws, licenses, etc. by putting these links up, and Rapidshare says they’ll keep the links up there no matter the bandwidth and until there is 90 days of inactivity. Trent wants his new album out there. You can pay him by going to his concerts and the like:

Own the Rights to NIN's Pretty Hate Machine

// July 27th, 2005 // Comments Off // Music, nine inch nails

From MTV.com:

On August 17 Nine Inch Nails fans will have an opportunity to score the ultimate collector’s item — the ownership rights to Trent Reznor’s groundbreaking debut, Pretty Hate Machine. Yes, kids — you could own tracks like “Down in It,” “Something I Can Never Have” and, of course, “Head Like a Hole,” but it’s going to cost you millions. The disc is one of several TVT Records titles on the auction block, compliments of Prudential Securities Financial Services. Pretty Hate Machine and numerous other recordings from the likes of KMFDM, Sister Machine Gun and Gravity Kills were presented as collateral in 1999 against a $32 million loan the label was approved for.

TVT managed to pay back $10 million of that amount, but Prudential took the label to court three years ago, claiming the current home of the Ying Yang Twins defaulted on the loan. Pretty Hate Machine is part of an overall biddable package that also includes the rights to the Television’s Greatest Hits compilations and the “Mortal Kombat” movie soundtracks. In addition, the highest bidder will be able to collect a percentage on future sales of Nine Inch Nails’ other TVT-related releases, including Broken, Fixed, The Downward Spiral and Further Down the Spiral.

Grohl Drums Up Support for Nine Inch Nails

NEW YORK (Billboard) – Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl has logged some time behind the drum kit with Nine Inch Nails, which is recording its first studio album since 1999′s “The Fragile.”

Eagle-eyed fans spotted Grohl on Nine Inch Nails’ in-studio Web cam last week, sitting behind a mixing console. His contributions are expected to appear on the Trent Reznor (news)-led act’s long-awaited new album, “Bleed Through,” due later this year via Interscope.

His presence was also tipped off by members of rock act the Exies, who are recording their next album at the same studio, Sound City Studios in Van Nuys, Calif.

“Last week, we had a great barbecue with Queens Of The Stone Age and this week we come in to see Dave Grohl playing drums for Nine Inch Nails,” the band wrote on its official Web site (http://www.theexies.com). “Is that a trip or what?! I guess Trent Reznor is going for real drums this time around. Good call, I say.”

A Foo Fighters spokesperson did not respond to a request for comment. Grohl rose to fame as the drummer in Nirvana.

An unattributed message on Nine Inch Nails’ official Web site says the band is “about to head back to New Orleans to begin work with (engineer) Alan Moulder. We’re in the midst of a very inspiring recording session that has everyone thrilled. We’re working on a new batch of songs Trent just wrote and we cannot wait for you to hear them.”

“There are lots of surprises in store — wish I could tell you what they are,” the post continues.

“The Fragile” debuted at No. 1 on The Billboard 200 and has sold more than 875,000 copes in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. It was followed in February 2002 by the concert album “And All That Could Have Been, Live.”

Death

// September 12th, 2003 // Comments Off // News, nine inch nails

Man, I haven’t been up but 10 minutes and have already heard about two celebrities’ deaths.

First, I heard John Ritter died at 54. I wonder what will happen to his sitcom? I had been seeing commercials for it during football. I’m assuming they have several episodes in the can, but not an entire season.

And in not so suprising news, musician Johnny Cash also died a few hours ago.
His last album won several awards at the MTV music awards, partially because his single was a nine inch nails cover of “Hurt.”
