Van Halen in Lullaby Format

Rockabye Baby! - Van Halen

I’ve written before about this Rockabye Baby series, who’ve done all kinds of lullaby renditions of popular music including, U2, Coldplay Nirvana, Metallica and even Bob Marley.

It was only a matter of time till they came out with a Van Halen disc, especially seeing as the Rockabye Baby series is done by David Lee Roth’s sister, and that time has come.

As I write this, I’m going through the preview audio for each track (Rockabye Baby! Lullaby Renditions of Van Halen. So strange. Our little one is a little too old for lullabies now. He loves the “Jump” studio track though (on repeat, Guitar Hero: Van Halen or the video on my iOS devices). Maybe munchkin #2 will get to hear this instead.

Love to cover too.. a bear rendition of the “Panama” video. Oh and you knew “..And the Cradle Will Rock” would show up on this disc.

Michael Winslow – Whole Lotta Love by Led Zeppelin

This is freaking awesome! Remember Michael Winslow from the Police Academy series of movies? In one of the movies, he did a cool Jimi Hendrix deal. This one is even cooler.

Kelly Clarkson Debuts Video for First Single From New Album

// September 26th, 2011 // No Comments » // Kelly Clarkson, Music, Video

Anyone that knows me knows that I’ve got a soft spot for anything Kelly Clarkson. Yeah, maybe even a bit of an obsession. I’m OK with that.

Anyway, I’m psyched for her new album that’s coming out at the end of October, and pre-ordered the CD the day it went on sale. The first single, “Mr. Know It All” was released recently, and the debut of the video was earlier today. Really digging the track.

Check out the video of for “Mr. Know It All” from YouTube below.

Van Halen Turbo-Pop

Van HalenThe good ol’ Van Halen News Desk posted this Monday—an old and interesting story of late 70′s (and early Van Halen) rock n roll antics. Say what you like about David Lee Roth, but the guy knows a lot about putting on a good show for the fans.

David Lee Roth's Sister's Rockin' Lullabyes

// August 3rd, 2011 // No Comments » // Baby, Music

I had no idea David Lee Roth’s sister was behind the Rockabye Baby series of CDs/Music. Basically, they’re musicbox-sounding lullaby versions of popular music. They’ve done a whole slew of artists including Guns N Roses, Metallica. We’ve got the Beatles one, along with a Coldplay and Bob Marley one. I really dig these and we used to play them for Tyler when he was a wee little man.

I’ll definitely snag the Van Halen one if it ever comes out. I just searched on Amazon and didn’t find it.

DIY Guitar Pick Puncher

DIY Guitar Pick PuncherThat thing in the picture looks like a stapler, but that ain’t no Swingline.

I came across this yesterday— a neat way to create your own guitar 351 style picks out of hard plastic. I’m trying to think what I have that I’d use for this though besides old credit cards or rewards memmbership cards.

Regardless, it’s a neat idea for all you fellow axe swingers.

New Van Halen Music Sounds Like Old School Van Halen

// July 2nd, 2011 // No Comments » // Music, Van Halen

Van HalenMan, this is sounding promising. Maybe, just maybe my comment yesterday about vaporware will be shown unfounded. Guitarist Mark Tremonti, formerly of Creed (though sounds like there may be a reunion there at some point) and now Alter Bridge, got the chance to hear all the instrumentals from the forthcoming Van Halen album at 5150 studios. I’m jealous, and hoping the album is getting closer to having a release date. Let’s hope it’s a 2011 date.

He had a couple of interesting tidbits in that they tried to utilize unused bits from the original Roth-era run, so the music sounds like old school Van Halen. Can’t wait to hear it—good or bad, but it sure is sounding like it’s going to be good.

Details Emerge on Chickenfoot's Sophomore Album

// July 1st, 2011 // No Comments » // Music

Chickenfoot2011 is going to end up being a nice year for my music collection, with my very eclectic and varied tastes, 2011 has already given me a new Foo Fighters album, and Kelly Clarkson (don’t laugh, jerk!) has already confirmed an album for the last quarter of 2011.

It also sounds like we may see a Van Halen album released as well, though I’m not holding my breath. That one is the proverbial vaporware until it’s actually out in stores and available from Amazon, iTunes, etc.

Former Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony though has confirmed a few details though on his new album with his current band with former Van Halen singer, Sammy Hagar. The first single for the sophomore Chickenfoot album is going to be released this month, with the entire album being released Sept 27th, 2011.

Five Things That Could Go Right/Wrong With Van Halen’s New Album

// June 28th, 2011 // No Comments » // Music, Van Halen

Van HalenThe list below gives two lists—one of things that could go right with the first full album with David Lee Roth as frontman of Van Halen in 27 (!) years, and another of those that could go bad. Call me a cynic, but I’m more worried about the bad list. Don’t get me wrong. I will have the new album the day it’s realased, but I’m still worried it’s going to fall horribly flat, or worse yet—continue to be a piece of vaporware.
