Lies of Mass Destruction

// August 29th, 2009 // No Comments » // Internet / Web, Politics

Good article a friend sent to me about people lacking the desire to find contrary information in the Internet age. The article specifically is talking about false information in political terms — such as the death squads in the current health care reform debates and falsehoods such as Obama not possessing an American birth certificate. It can obviously also be extrapolated into the Internet age as a whole — where while it’s easier than ever to seek out contrary viewpoints, people tend to stick with those sites and crowds that are the most like their opinions and the like. Interesting read.

Van Halen Tells McCain to Back Off “Right Now”

// August 30th, 2008 // No Comments » // Music, Politics

So it sounds like John McCain (and George W. Bush before him) used one of the most popular Hagar-era Van Halen songs – “Right Now” during public events.

Like a lot of bands, it sounds like Van Halen has no desire to be affiliated with any political candidate, and can you blame them?

Most of these songs aren’t really appropriate anyway when you listen to the lyrics beyond the chorus. Ronald Regan utilized Bruce Springsteen’s “Born in the USA” which if you listen to a few versus, is anything but an upbeat song about the state of America. “Right Now,” although not as politically charged, is more about living in the moment – not the best campaign song when people are thinking about the next four years, not just right now.

I hope everyone got out and voted today! I just hope my poor birth state gets it right this year and there are no election mishaps with hanging chads or missing absentee ballots.
