Effects of Hanna Storm to Affect Our Area in a Matter of Hours

// September 5th, 2008 // No Comments » // Local (Raleigh Durham), Weather

So we’ve got a little bit of weather headed our way. Rains started early this afternoon, but the severest will happen over night and tomorrow morning.

I don’t think it will get too bad in our area, though there are flash flood warnings. Through tomorrow afternoon we could see up to 5 inches of rain. That’s a ton for the drought-stricken area.

Here’s to hoping for some good rains, but not to the point of the flooding. I’m also hoping we get minimal wind and keep power throughout the weekend!

Thankful For the Recent Rain

It’s been really wonderful that central North Carolina (along with a lot of other areas) has been getting rain pretty steadily for the last couple days, and it looks like we’re going to get it possibly all the way through the weekend. It’s great for the state in a year where we’ve been fighting drought conditions almost throughout.

Just two days of steady rain have already perked up our lawn and plants. It’s amazing how with just some decent moisture, plants and lawns green right back up.

Now I know beggars can’t be choosers, but I’ve got two requests of the weather in the coming weeks and months:

Winter Storm? Not So Far

// January 19th, 2008 // 1 Comment » // Local (Raleigh Durham), Weather

So there’s been a ton of talk about a big storm hitting the Triangle. I’ve been chilling solo all day here at the house, and nothing thus far. It’s not even raining here. Amanda’s at Tina’s wedding shower out in the Garner area and she said on the way out, there was some rain. But like more times than not, the weathermen (and women) don’t have a damn clue. They get everyone up and arms and then nothing.

Now they’re predicting something *may* happen later tonight, but the only thing that’s a given for the evening is darkness.

Late Wet Christmas Present for North Carolina

// December 26th, 2007 // No Comments » // Weather

Rainy RaleighWell, we didn’t get a white Christmas here in central North Carolina, but it’s a wet one today, with more rain forecasted for the upcoming weekend. It’s been raining pretty much constantly all morning and it’s a real welcome sight!

While I don’t know how this will impact our severe drought, it’s gotta be a good thing. The question is how much of a dent can it make?

It’s a Fantastic Forecast: Cold, Wet and Windy!

Bring on the Rain!

// October 24th, 2007 // No Comments » // Weather

Finally - Some Rain for Raleigh, NCSo as I was driving into work this morning I noticed how overcast and dark the sky was. This is really unusual as we haven’t had rain in what seems like months. I checked weather.com and it looks like we could be receiving some heavy doses of rain for the next 2-3 days. I’m all for it! Bring on the rain!

Weak Winter

// February 12th, 2005 // Comments Off // Weather

So where’s this bad winter everyone predicted here a few months back? We’re midway through February (almost), and I’ve been outside running in shorts and a short-sleeved t-shirt. Amanda has yet to see a real snow accumulation. This has been one of the mildest winters I can remember since living in NC.

Oh well, it’s been nice to be able to run outside.

Local Metorologist

// January 22nd, 2005 // Comments Off // Weather

Man, the local Metorologist couldn’t get the weather right to save their lives. Even the radio station here that I listen to (G105) noticed and kept commenting on their complete inaccurancy. We mostly paid attention to www.weather.com. Those guys predicted Wednesday’s snow dusting (which took everyone by surprise and incapacitated the Triangle) and have been right on the money thus far.

It’s pretty funny too, because now that the local guys have been so far off they are starting to overreact and call for snow showers every night. Ummm… that’s not real helpful guys!!

Supposedly we have bad bad weather today and Sunday. I just walked the dog and there’s no snow, no rain, no ice. It was cold but that’s nothing unusual. My prediction… no snow this weekend.

Snow Please

// January 20th, 2005 // Comments Off // Weather

So the first little bit of snow is gone and now we’re forecasted to get some overnight. I really don’t want to work tomorrow, so I’m hoping to wake up to 2 inches of ice and snow in the morning to give us a three day weekend. *fingers crossed*
