New Hampshire's New Laws Helping Out Cyclists

Just saw this on one of the email lists I’m on regarding cycling. I hope other states in the this great nation follow suite behind New Hampshire’s great laws that protect us cyclists out on the road:

New Hampshire just passed a new law that, as of Jan 1, 2009:

• Directs the highway dept. to consider bicycles in planning rumble strips, drain grates, etc.
• Requires a 3-foot passing distance plus an extra 1 ft per 10 mph above 30 mph.(motor vehicles passing bikes)
• Allows bike to pass stationary cars on the right.
• Explicitly includes reasons that riding “as far to the right as practicable”

• requires that “A bicyclist shall wear at least one item of reflective outerwear apparel, such as a reflective vest, jacket, or helmet strip, during the period from 1/2 hour after sunset to 1/2 hour before sunrise.”
