Psyched About the New Bike
// November 29th, 2008 // Cycling, Personal Crap
Man I am so freakin excited! Today, we did a bunch of Christmas shopping, and we’re just about done. In with all our shopping travels across Raleigh, we also dropped my Specialized Allez Comp at our local bike shop, The Bicycle Chain to get its rear brake/wheel fixed again (it was just in the shop a week back and it seems their last attempt might have made things worst).
Several times in the past few weeks, we’ve been in there drooling over the ’09 Specialized Tarmac bike lineup, Specialized’s top of the line carbon fiber road bikes. They’ve had a white and red ’09 Tarmac SL on display with a full SRAM component group on it. It’s a gorgeous bike, but a bit too pricey for us to ever consider purchasing.
After the shopping was all concluded this afternoon, we went back to the Bicycle Chain and Amanda pulled the trigger, ordering me a freakin gorgeous black and blue Tarmac Expert with a full Ultegra SL group on it. Just upgrading to the carbon frame is a huge upgrade, not to mention the Ultegra SL 10 speed being a lighter setup than my current 9 speed Ultegra that’s like five years old and probably several hundred grams heavier. I test rode an entry level Tarmac with Shinano 105 hardware on it today just to try out the carbon frame and its different geometry from my steel frame Allez Comp. Just that change was mind blowing. I cannot wait to hop on my actual bike with its higher end components!
Oh and we also got a pretty big revelation. My current bike is really too small for me by about two whole bike sizes. My Allez is a 50cm and the new Tarmac will be a 54cm! Maybe that will help my lower back problems too!
The bike is coming from Specialized’s East coast warehouse up in Ohio and I should get to ride the new ride this coming weekend, or possibly next week. I’m just so psyched, grateful and blessed to have my first carbon fiber, my first brand new bike. It’s going to be great racing and just riding that 2009 piece of hardware! Thanks so much Amanda! I’ll definitely get our money’s worth out of the new ride!

Wow. Nice. Can’t wait to see it out at Ace. How’s the winter training going?
Yeah, I am super psyched. Off-season training’s going alright. I’m working with a trainer that’s got me doing cycling specific weight training, focusing on weak muscles/areas and that’s going well.
We’re in Florida for Christmas, and I’ll be racing the Tarmac for the first time two days after Christmas down there. I think that’s going to end up being my last Cat5 race as well.
How’s your training going? See you out at Ace!
It’s going well. I know people hate riding the trainer but I’ve been getting in some focused workouts 3-4 times a week with one longer road ride on the weekends. I think I’ll be in great shape come March. I’m going to Paceline’s team meeting tonight to see about joining. I’m really excited about next year. Good luck on that Fl race. Those guys never stop. Btw, my email is lonniejames at gmail.com if you ever need to correspond.
