Psyched to Bike Commute
// May 19th, 2008 // Cycling, Personal Crap
So with rising gas prices, and my desire to cycle, along with just wanting to try it out, I’m looking into bike commuting to work. But, we live in NE Durham. I work in downtown Raleigh. To get downtown safely by bike, it’s a kind of roundabout route and while I could totally do it, it wouldn’t be efficient for work days. But I still wanted to incorporate some cycling into my work commute.
So, did some research and initially thought about doing a bike to a bus stop, stow the bicycle on the front of the bus and then travel to a bus stop in Raleigh, then finish out the commute.
I guess that’s still an option, but I think I am going to initially drive to a park and ride, then cycle the rest of the way in. With the help of the Gyros I was able to plot what looks to be a safe and efficient route from the Park and Ride at a local Raleigh Mall into work:
Route from Crabtree Valley Mall to Ulanguzi Creative Strategies
I have a shower nailed down too. There’s a private gym on the first floor of our office. I’m meeting with the owner Wednesday to discuss using his facility three times a week for a quick shower and freshen up session. Hopefully that will work out. If that fails, I can always utilize the gym I belong to. I am hoping for the former, but the latter will do if need be.
Regardless, I’m looking to the fitness benefits of three bike commutes a week and the cost savings associated with it. I’ll post updates as I have them. I’m psyched and ready for the change and challenge. Wish me luck and safety.
