Lance Armstrong's Talk With Tony Kornheiser

// March 23rd, 2010 // 1 Comment » // Cycling

After Tony Kornheiser’s whole tirade about running cyclists off the road deal last week, Lance Armstrong appeared on Kornheiser’s radio show late last week. It’s nice to have such a well-spoken cycling advocate in Lance Armstrong.

LightLane, the Bike Lane That Rides With You: Now a Reality

// June 23rd, 2009 // No Comments » // Cycling

I’m feeling like I’m not posting enough bike/cycling posts here at Keefer Madness, though two (not including this one) currently on the home page fall under the cycling category. Anyway, here’s a new gadget for those night time bike commutes to add a little safety, projecting a laser line on either side of you and your bicycle to encourage drivers to pass you with a little bit of distance, with a video to demonstrate.

Cat4 So Far

// February 25th, 2009 // No Comments » // Cycling, Personal Crap

Cat4 So FarSo since I’ve upgraded to Cat4 road racing this year, I’ve struggled. But, it’s to be expected as it’s early in the season and I’m competing in a tougher class with longer races. US Cycling has finally updated their site with the official results.

So far, here are my results, while not great, are respectable and give me something to build on as my season progresses. Again, it’s early! I haven’t even taken bike commuting back up (though that’s happening real soon.. I miss it!)

Winter Biking Just Part of the Year-Round Commute

// January 21st, 2008 // No Comments » // Cycling

Commuting in the cold and snowMan, do I feel like a wuss. I jump on the indoor trainer pretty much any time under 50 degrees. My feet just get too cold. That being said, I may feel like a wuss, but at least I’m a warm wuss.

Setting Cycling Goals

// January 10th, 2008 // 1 Comment » // Cycling, Personal Crap

Ryan's Take OffSo it’s an all Cycling post morning it seems. I’ve been thinking about this one a lot, as I’m on the trainer and on the spinning bikes on the gym. I’ve been super consistent in the off season, getting a fair amount of miles indoors. Now, with 2008 here, it’s time to up the group riding (especially with my team, the Tricyclists), and set goals for the 2008 season. Last year, I did a mere two crits. The goal this year is to participate in 10 events – whether they are crits, road races or time trials. I’m sure I’ll do a couple of the charity-type events, like the MS Training rides, and other various metric centuries, etc, but I’m not counting them. Those are still just training for the real events.

High-Intensity Training: The Latest Evidence

// January 10th, 2008 // No Comments » // Cycling, Health & Fitness

Only a Few... Laps.. to Go...To me, it makes sense that throwing in some interval training, even in the off season would only help. Old ideas are hard to break and base miles is ingrained in the sport of cycling, but so far in this off season, my interval training has really helped me. The real test will be that first crit.

Maintain Your Lean, Mean Racing Machine

My cycling season legA lot of this is common sense stuff, but nothing like a few reminders to help you (me) in check for the upcoming season.

I’m also starting to find out that if you want to be successful, there is no real off-season. The training and scenary may stay the same, but other than a few days or weeks of rest, the off-season can be as important as the summer racing.

American Tobacco Trail Ride Yesterday

// January 7th, 2008 // No Comments » // Cycling

We finally got Bret to ride his bike, and it actually was the first time Amanda was riding her new (to her) Road Bike, along with Tina on her first ride on her new mountain bike (Mongoose — very similar to the one I got that starting my cycling bug). Anyway, below is the route we rode yesterday. The weather was near perfect for riding. Had we done it any later, it would have cooled off a bit and been slightly chilly. We ended up having a late lunch at Souper Salad, and just chilling out. I think everyone had a good time and hopefully there will be more rides in the future. Eventually, maybe we’ll do some other trails and maybe they’ll do some of the charity rides.
