Posting a lot of rides lately — it’s getting to be that time of the year. This is one I try to do every year:

It’s National Bike Month and once again the RTP foundation and Go Triangle are helping out with the annual Ride of Silence RTP. This ride is in memory of fallen cyclists and in celebration of those who have survived auto/cycle crashes.
WHEN: Wednesday, May 16th.
WHERE: RTP Headquarters 12 Davis Drive, RTP, NC.
TIME: 7:00 p.m. sharp.

This ride take place across the world at 7:00 p.m. We ride in complete silence, using only hand signals. Be sure to arrive early to air up your tires and for a moment of reflection. Please join is in rural Lee, Chatham, and Moore Counties for a great ride. Roads built for cycling (no traffic), great rest stops, and a band at the end. You get to meet some of the denizens, have some CBC refreshments and lunch is provided by Cafe 121 (gourmet chef). The food is the best you will ever have on a ride!

Been over a week since I had the time to post something on Keefer Madness.

Sorry. It’s been crazy busy at home and work. Luckily, Amanda and I make a good team and have been able to consistently cover for each other. So lucky and grateful for that — each and every day.

Anyway, just wanted to post a quick cycling-related t-shirt collection. I’ve been a long time subscriber to Threadless’ newsletters, but have only purchased one shirt from them ever — their Infinity MPG green t-shirt. Love it. I wear it often to work and at home.

Co-worker sent this over this morning — a technlogy project partnership between Toyota and Parlee. An up or down thought could translate into a gear up or downshift. Pretty cool concept.

Bike Lets You Change Gears With Your Mind

So cool. Rock Hill, South Carolina, a cool 3 hours south of my home in Durham is opening a 250m velodrome March 17th.

I’ve never ridden on a velodrome, but have raced my bike on elevated tracks made for race cars (Orange County Speedway and Ace Speedway). I’d assume an outdoor velodrome would be kind of similar.

Regardless, good news for us cyclists in the southeast. Can’t wait to check it out.

Rock Hill, SC Giordana Velodrome – Opening 2012

Day after day and month after month, some of the most popular posts on this site are related to the issues I’ve had with my Garmin cycling accessories.

Since I got my original Garmin Edge 305 many years ago for a birthday, I’ve utilized its cadence and heart rate monitor straps religiously without issue — through many varying temperatures, rain storms, etc. The cadence sensor still works as well as the first day it was mounted to one of my bike frames.

Until recently, the same could be said about my heart rate monitor strap. But now, over the past 2 months, it’s just failing. I’ll get sporadic readings during a bike ride — always being lower than what I think my perceived effort should reflect. This obviously affects a given ride’s caloric calculations.

I’ve tried changing batteries, re-pairing it with my current Garmin Edge 500. Still sporadic. So I finally bit the bullet and ordered a new heart rate monitor from Amazon. They have a newer designed “soft” strap, but the price was a lot higher. Despite my original failing, I feel like it’s done a great job, and I’d rather get a replacement of the original design. That’s supposed to arrive later today.

After I set it up, get a couple rides in, I’ll update you all on whether a new heart rate monitor strap was in fact the fix. I’m pretty confident it will be.
