Next Subaru WRX to Use Electric Turbocharger?

// May 4th, 2012 // No Comments » // Planes, Trains & Automobiles

Even with no longer having a Subie, the Impreza/WRX always will have a special place in my heart. Saw this article yesterday and thought it was intriguing.

If the WRX was to move to an electric turbocharger of sorts, does that make it more of a supercharger than a turbocharger?

Toyota GT-86

Saw this on Uncrate yesterday, and glad to see that Toyota is finally getting back into sportier cars, instead of being the solely SUV and Camry market of the past decade or so. Seems the new coupe has recently officially launched in Japan.

I love part of Uncrate’s description:

Aside from its oddball name — Toyota apparently is neither happy with its former sports car moniker nor familiar with the American meaning of “86′d”

I also love that it’s got Subaru’s 2.0 liter Boxer engine under the hood.

Review: 2011 Subaru Impreza WRX STI

Subaru Logo Ever since the Subaru Impreza WRX made its bug-eyed American debut, I’ve been a big fan of all things Impreza including the WRX and STi. It’s gone through a fair amount of design change, refinement and ups and downs. Through it all, still a big fan. Check out the review of the pricey, but cool 2011 STi:

2012 Subaru Impreza First Look

// April 21st, 2011 // No Comments » // Planes, Trains & Automobiles

I am definitely digging the new 2012 Subaru Impreza. It’s a nice progression from the model I’m driving (2010). The fuel economy is more impressive than mine, though some of that comes in the form of a smaller engine, going from a 2.5L to a 2.0 DOHC. Not bad. I won’t be trading my 2.5i in for this, but like the progression. It’s weird to me though that the designs between the 2.5i and the WRX & STi are now out of sync, and are likely to be for at least a few years since the newly designed WRX and STi’s were just announced a few months back.

Toyota's FT-86 Revives Celica

// March 1st, 2011 // No Comments » // Planes, Trains & Automobiles

8th Generation CelicaSo after a pretty short departure, the Toyota Celica is back! It turns out that the FT-86 project Toyota has been jointly working on with Subaru is in fact the 8th generation Toyota Celica.

Obviously, Subaru will have a sister car. I’ll be interested to see how the styling differs. I like Toyota’s take, and while I love my Impreza, I’m not all that a fan of the newest generation Impreza that was recently revealed. Ah, I miss my old 6th generation Celica.

This new Celica will go back to rear-wheel drive and has Subaru’s Boxer engine under the hood, giving it a 0-60 time of under 7 seconds. Supposedly, the FT-86 concept is pretty close to the actual production car that will revive the Celica name badge.

First Look: Toyota FT-86 II ConceptSubaru and Toyota: my two favorite companies — can’t wait to see how this pans out for them partnering to make a little ol’ sports car, using what most think with be the Subaru Impreza WRX as the power plant for the RWD sports car. I’m really interested to see how this evolves, and obviously what the final product ends up looking like.

Sneak Preview: 2012 Subaru Impreza

So here’s a little sneak peek of the redesigned 2012 Subaru Impreza. The article does a little hating on the current body style, but I like my 5-door 2010 Impreza — both in terms of looks and driveability. Though, I would appreciate the better gas mileage. Who wouldn’t?

All the pics are of the sedan. Looking forward to seeing what the 5-door (wagon) looks like for 2012.

Subaru Impreza ConceptSo here’s a first look at what is probably the next generation of the Subaru Impreza. I’m liking its look, and have really enjoyed how the Impreza has morphed over the past decade. I’m interested to see how this actually shows up in production, and how it looks as a wagon, as well as the eventual WRX and STi.

Subaru WRX STi Pulls Semi-truck Out of Snow with Ease

// January 2nd, 2010 // No Comments » // Planes, Trains & Automobiles, Video

Subaru LogoSince becoming a Subaru owner, obviously I’ve become more interested in Subaru-related posts flying around on the net. This one below falls into that category. I’m pretty sure or naturally aspirated 2.5i couldn’t do this feat, but it’s big big brother sure can. Check out the video.

Fantasy 2009 Forester: Full STI, Baby!

// December 15th, 2009 // No Comments » // Planes, Trains & Automobiles

Subaru LogoSo you want the beefy Subaru Impreza STi for its raw power, handling and that big ol’ turbo, but you need more room to haul around gear, kids, etc.? Check out this project by Pacific Import Auto (PIA) in Tacoma, Washington to transplant an Impreza STi’s innards and put them into a 2009 Forester XT. The thing looks totally stock, and performs great.

I just love the deep sound of the car, 0:52 into the video. Sounds a whole better than my puny naturally aspirated Impreza 2.5i. But then again, there’s a whole lot more money put into that XT.
