Get Ready for UNC Vs. Michigan State on an Aircraft Carrier

// November 19th, 2010 // No Comments » // Sports Stuff, UNC-CH

Gimmicky, but definitely unique — the concept would be to play a double-header set of NCAA basketball games: one with two service teams (Air Force Vs. Navy or the like), and then a game like Carolina versus Michigan State. But wait, would that be in lieu of the ACC/Big 10 Challenge?

It seems frivolous on a level that makes all the sporting event aircraft flybys look like nothing, but it would be a cool gesture for all those who are good enough to serve the United States in our armed forces.

unc-logoCongratulations to the Tar Heels for another ACC win – this one against Miami (FL), winning 82-65.

Congrats to Wayne Ellington as well for a stellar three point performance in the second half, after remaining scoreless in the first half. Go Heels!

UNC Routs Rutgers 44-12

UNC Tar HeelsThe Tar Heels started out a bit slow last night, but T.J. Yates, Hakeem Nicks and Brandon Tate all settled down into their own respective grooves and really put on a show as Thursday night’s football progressed.

Carolina’s D also stepped up as the game wore on, capitalizing on Rutgers’ mistakes multiple times.

It’s wonderful to see the Heels start 2-0 in Butch Davis’ second year at the helm, and that second win is on the road – something the Heels haven’t done in the past 20 road games I believe.

Obama Scrimmages With UNC Tar Heels

Go HeelsAs both a die-hard Tar Heel and a democrat (who still is unsure who to vote for in the primary), I just had to post this video of Obama scrimmaging with the Tar Heels:

Tar Heels Ease Through First Round of NCAA Tourney

// March 21st, 2008 // No Comments » // Sports Stuff

Go HeelsAmanda and I are down in South Carolina for the weekend, but I still jumped on watching the Heels play tonight in the opening round of the 2008 NCAA Men’s basketball tournament. We struggled at first to find the game, but eventually found it. To no one’s surprise, the Heels had very little trouble with Mount St. Mary’s. Tyler Hansbrough had 17 points in the first half alone. It wasn’t the most exciting, nor nail-biting game, but it’s been a nice and welcome change after a couple of close calls in the ACC, to have an easier game before meeting some tougher teams in the next couple matchups.

Congrats to the Heels, playing so close to home. I’m happy they’re playing this opening round just down I-40 in Raleigh at the Hurricanes/Wolfpack’s arena – the RBC Center. It’s gotta help to be able to sleep in your own bed after these first couple games.

Voting for No. 1 Spread Out, Even in Wake of UNC's Win Over Duke

// March 10th, 2008 // No Comments » // Sports Stuff, UNC-CH

Go HeelsSo even with our impressive defense and victory over rival Duke University Saturday night, we still didn’t get unanimously voted #1. Sure, we’re #1, but some defuses out there voted for Kansas (they’re a freaking #2 seed), UCLA, Memphis and Tennessee!

Oh well. It’s so awesome to finish the regular season as #1 in the nation, to have the regular season ACC title and now hoping for a great run in the ACC and NCAA tournaments!

Heels Beat Duke at Duke

// March 8th, 2008 // No Comments » // Sports Stuff, TV Talk

Go HeelsMan, I gotta say, I was a bit nervous coming into the game, but Carolina went into Duke’s house and played a pretty good game. With that win, we’ve won 3 straight at Cameron Indoor Stadium! I think the Heels had more blocks in that game than any other one this season by leaps and bounds – just wish we had capitalized a bit better on some of those throughout the game. In the end though, our defense and some key shots won it for us. Danny Green, as per usual as of late, hit some of those key shots.

TCongrats to the Heels for becoming the Regular Season ACC Champs. That’s another banner to hoist for the Heels. Hopefully, we’ll have a couple more to hoist before the Heels stop playing basketball this year. I love this time of year, especially when my Tar Heels are #1 in the nation going into post-season play!

Tyler Hansbrough Gets Sports Illustrated Player of the Year

Go HeelsSweet! Congrats to the hardest working player in NCAA basketball – Psycho T, Tyler Hansbrough. I love too that he said the only way he won’t be back for his senior year is if the Heels win the national championship. Either way, the Tar Heels and Tar Heels fans win.

Heels Back on Top

Go HeelsWoo hoo! The Tar Heels are back on top of both polls, despite having a scare with Boston College’s Tyrese Rice. Thankfully, a hell of a second half brought the Heels a win in the first game in a month with Ty Lawson getting some playing time.

Lawson Update and How The Offense Changed

// February 27th, 2008 // No Comments » // Sports Stuff, UNC-CH

Go HeelsWhile the Tar Heels have fared OK without Lawson now for half the ACC season, they’re really going to need him going into the ACC and NCAA tournaments. There’s few fans following the Heels that haven’t realized that Ty’s injury is more serious than first believed. It still doesn’t sound like he’s out of the woods fully.

As much as Quentin Thomas has improved with his additional minutes, the Heels are definitely more sloppy with him and Marcus Ginyard running the offense. We miss you Lawson, and hope the healing continues and he comes back fully in time for the post season!
