TiVo Brings Your TV Shows to Every Screen in the House, Big and Small

// May 24th, 2012 // No Comments » // Mobile, TiVo Bytes

Though I haven’t had an active TiVo in the house for quite some time I’m still interested to see how they’re trying to stay alive, innovate etc. Seems their newest products will be an IP set-top box, allowing content to be viewed on any screen in the house, including mobile:

DirecTV/TiVo (AKA DirecTiVo) HD DVR: Coming Thursday?

// December 7th, 2011 // No Comments » // TiVo Bytes, TV Talk

DirecTV/TiVo (AKA DirecTiVo) HD DVR: Coming Thursday?Hmmm, the old 250 unit on DirecTV was great. When they abanoned Tivo on DirecTV is when we switched to cable.

If it’s true that there’s another TiVo-branded DVR on its way to DirecTV, we may go back to DirecTV here in the Keefer household, though I’m over my early adopter syndrome. We will wait for this thing to be out on the market, thoroughly tested, a few software updates applied and reviews to be available.

Regardless, glad to hear TiVo is soon to be part of the satellite giant again.

Best Buy Launches Insignia Connected HDTVs With TiVo (and Chumby)

TiVoHmm, can someone explain to me why I would want the TiVo UI integrated into a TV without a DVR? What’s the last TV you’ve used and other than the initial setup, you ever see the UI again. I guess their argument is that the UI is more for the Internet-related applications built into the set, but TiVo to me, and a lot of other consumers is all about the best DVR experience—not for just its user interface.

TiVo Premiere Q & Preview Announced (sort of)

// June 12th, 2011 // No Comments » // Tech, TiVo Bytes

TiVoWhile we’re no longer an active TiVo family, they’ll always have a special place in my heart. This article is weird for two reasons: 1) TiVo’s playing catchup with a whole house DVR, but more strangely, 2) they’re doing a non-DVR cable box. Their interface is nice and speedy, so I guess that’s a positive. It’s just weird that there’s no video recording functionality in it.

Why We've Come Crawling Back to Cable

// May 10th, 2011 // No Comments » // Personal Crap, Tech, TiVo Bytes, TV Talk

Today marks the first time in nearly a decade where I didn’t have at least one TiVo active in the house. Last Sunday, we re-subscribed to the more-than-basic cable — back to Time Warner’s digital cable tier. While the cost savings of just paying for the basic level of cable were great, we came crawling back for a number of reasons:

TiVo's Let Me Down

// April 28th, 2011 // No Comments » // Tech, TiVo Bytes

TiVoI used to be the hugest TiVo fanboy in the world. I was an early adopter, having the Sony SVR-2000 years ago, recording analog cable. I’ve recommended numerous TiVos to friends and family alike, and have owned close to a dozen standalone TiVos and DirecTV TiVos combined. I used to look down on those that went the route of the cable or satellite house DVR’s.

But no more.

TiVo Prepping 4 Tuner HD DVR

// April 14th, 2011 // No Comments » // HDTV Bits, TiVo Bytes

TiVo The newest TiVo survey (which I didn’t get) references some interesting hardware that would be very welcome in the Keefer household:

  • A companion device for your DVR. It allows a second TV (in another room) to watch live TV (in HD) and also watch the recordings from your DVR.
  • A 4-tuner high-definition DVR that allows you to record up to 4 shows at one time (and watch a 5th show that is previously recorded).

It’s just a survey, meaning it’s stuff TiVo’s contemplating, but it’d be great to see both of those come to fruition.

What’s Next for TiVo: Hulu, Streaming, Extenders

TiVoIt’s been so busy both at work and at home. Keefer Madness sadly almost always is the barometer of how busy it is for me — personally and professionally. Regardless, I’m, trying to get a short post out here and in future days.

This quick post is in regards to what used to be one of my favorite tech gadgets of all time. The post linked below is based on rumor, but I gotta say I’ve been pretty jaded and sour or TiVo as of late with their lack of innovation, their slow development cycles, and the distancing of themselves from customers who are on anything but the latest round of hardware. We’re on a TiVo HD and a TiVo dual tuner (SD), and it seems we’ve been all but forgotten as customers. Regardless, here’s the latest round of rumors — all of which will only benefit the Premiere hardware.

TiVo Announces Supercharged iPad Remote App

TiVoThis looks pretty cool, but sadly it only supports the newest round of TiVo Hardware — the TiVo Premiere, the Series 3 and TiVo HD are both not mentioned, which leaves every one of our TiVos out of luck. I wish they could make it work with at least all their HD hardware.

TiVoI’ve been wanting this for years, complimenting the online scheduling of shows on our TiVos. I’m glad they’ve finally allowed for access to TiVo’s Season Pass manager.
