Even with the shuttle being retired for over a half a year, we’re still getting cool media.
Check the video after the jump for an audio and video journey of one of the solid rocket boosters launches, gets separated from the shuttle orbiter, and then descends and parachutes into the ocean.
It’s a compilation of footage from STS-117 (Atlantis) and STS-127 (Endeavour). Very cool.

Nice little video showing the permanent powering down of two of the three remaining shuttles (Atlantis and Discovery) from back in December.
Later this year, they’ll be in their new display homes.

In a time when the U.S. doesn’t have a way to get humans in space and the budget to reinstate that is dwindling, Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson’s remarks in front of the Senate are appreciated and sobering.

A guy at work shared this on Friday. It’s a commercial that shows a future technology of a flexible and transparent display. So cool. Can’t wait till technology like this is commonplace.

Just heard this parody of the Apple iPhone 4S/Siri commercial when I was listening to the latest episode of This Week in Tech on the drive into work. Too funny.

NASA TV’s YouTube channel added this 17 minute video yesterday, and it’s a pretty cool historical account of our now retired space shuttle program, along with a little voice over by William Shatner, insight from astrophysicist Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson and a soundtrack by Rush.
It’s all so amazing, and here’s to the next chapter of space exploration.

In case you missed it, the Kennedy Space Center had another successful launch this past weekend, sending the Mars-bound Curiosity car-sized rover into outer space.
Congrats to everyone involved in successfully launching the Atlas 5 rocket with its large precious cargo sitting atop!
