Van Halen Says 'No' to Hagar-Era Cover
// December 14th, 2009 // Music, Van Halen
Back-to-back Van Halen posts today. It seems American Idol alum Carrie Underwood and David Cook did a cover of the Sammy Hagar-era tune, “Why Can’t This Be Love?” for a recent broadcast special. Like the article says, a little common sense could have kept from wasting everyone’s time. I’m sure that Hagar and Michael Anthony wouldn’t mind a cover, but there’s no way the Van Halen camp whilst in the middle of a reunion with David Lee Roth would want to promote a Hagar-era track. If they had done a cover of something from the Roth albums, say “And the Cradle Will Rock,” or something. It might be hard to find a DLR song to cover as a duet though.
I would have liked to hear Underwood’s take on this, after hearing her cover Motley Crue’s “Home Sweet Home” a few years back. Oh well. Maybe it’ll “leak” to YouTube or something.
